Setting up email in Outlook 2000

Internet Mail version

These instructions are for Outlook 2000 setup in "Internet Mail Only" mode.

Click here for instructions for Outlook 2000 in "Corporate or Workgroup"mode.

To find out what installation mode you have:

Click the Help menu.
Click About Microsoft Outlook.
The second line should be either "Internet Mail Only" or "Corporate or Workgroup".
Click OK to return to Microsoft Outlook.



Open Microsoft Outlook. Click the Tools menu and choose Accounts.

Click the Add button and choose Mail.

Enter your First and Last name in the Display name field. This is how it will appear when you send email. Click Next.

Enter your email address and click Next.
Your email address is usually username@quicksilver.net.nz or your domain email address

My incoming mail server is a: POP3 Server
Incoming mail server - pop.qsi.net.nz
Outgoing mail server - smtp.qsi.net.nz

Click Next.

Account Name - your Quicksilver username (lower case)
Password - your Quicksilver password (lower case)

Click Next.

Choose your connection type:

If you have an ADSL connection choose Connect using my Local Area Network (LAN) and click Next.
If you have a Dialup connection choose Connect using my phone line and click Next.


Click Finish. Close the Internet Accounts window to return to Microsoft Outlook.
Congratulations, you have set up Outlook 2000 (Internet Mail only mode) for your Quicksilver email!


Outlook 2000 (Corporate or Workgroup mode)

Open Outlook. Click on TOOLS > SERVICES.

If you have Internet Email listed, highlight it and click the Properties button. If you do not have Internet Email listed, click the Add button, highlight Internet Email and click OK. You may be prompted for your Outlook or Office installation disk.

On the General tab:

'Type the name by which you would like to refer to these servers' - Enter Quicksilver
Organisation
- leave blank, or enter your company name.
Name - Enter your First Name & Last Name as you would like it to appear when you send mail
Email Address - Usually username@quicksilver.net.nz, or your domain email address
Reply Address - leave blank


Click the Servers tab:

Incoming Mail (POP3) - pop.qsi.net.nz
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) - smtp.qsi.net.nz
Account Name - your Quicksilver username
Password - your Quicksilver password

Click the Connection tab:

If you have an ADSL connection choose Connect using my Local Area Network (LAN).
If you have a Dialup connection choose Connect using my phone line and choose your Quicksilver dialup connection in the box below.


Click OK to save the changes. An error will pop up informing you that the changes you have made will not take effect until the next time you log on to Outlook. Click OK.

Click OK on the Services window. After you exit the program and reopen it, the new settings will be in place.
