WS_FTP Setup Instructions

WS FTP LE is an easy-to-use FTP program for Windows.

The following tutorial will explain how to configure and use WS FTP95 LE to upload files to your Quicksilver website. Note: WS_FTP has now been phased out and replaced with 'WS_FTP Home' which is no longer free. We do not have tutorials for WS_FTP Home edition.

Before your begin, make sure you have your Quicksilver webspace username and password.
You should also have enabled your webspace (if not already done). Skip this if you have Windows NT or Premium Linux hosting.

Open the WS_FTP program.
Click on 'New' to create a new profile

Profile Name - Quicksilver
Host Name/Address - www-upload.quicksilver.net.nz
If you have Windows NT or Premium Linux hosting your hostname will be username.qsihost.co.nz

Host Type - Automatic Detect
User ID and Password - your Quicksilver webspace username and password. (This is usually, but not always, the same as your internet password)

Click on the 'Startup' tab.

Initial Remote Site Folder - /doc/

If you have Windows NT or Premium Linux hosting the default folder is /htdocs/

Click on Advanced.
If you are behind a network firewall, or an ADSL router, you need to ensure that 'Passive Transfers' is ticked.

Click on OK.

WS FTP will now connect to the Quicksilver server.
You should now have the WS FTP file manager in front of you.

In the WS FTP file manager, the left-hand directory represents the files on your computer's hard drive, and the right-hand directory represents your account on Quicksilver's server.

To upload files, select the file on the left, and click on the arrow in the middle pointing towards the right. The file will be uploaded from your computer to your Quicksilver webspace.

In the above example, we uploaded a file to the default directory on the Quicksilver server. You may wish to create subdirectories (folders) to better organise your files.

To create a new subdirectory, click on the "MkDir" button on the right-hand side. Enter the name of the new directory you want in the pop-up box and click on "OK"

To save files into this new subdirectory, double-click on the directory name, and proceed to upload the files as before.
